Some time ago, I fell into a new rabbit hole and started to learn about the lore and universe of Warhammer 40k. I am still very much scratching the surface, but out of all the Imperium’s factions, the Grey Knights might be my favourite. They really have this dark paladin aura that I find really cool, ready to anihilate entire worlds to preserve the secrecy of their existence, and push the notion of “sacrifice for the greater good” to the extreme.

Drawing for Warhammer is a good training for me, as it involves both a mix of fantasy and sci-fi visual look, forcing me to go out of my comfort zone in terms of design. I had this idea of Grey Knights, descending on a world to purge it from a demonic incursion and just burning it down to the grounds to get rid of all the potential witnesses and corrupted souls.

When my brother told me he was working on a video game on his spare time, and he asked me if I wanted to help him designing some characters , I didn’t really hesitate. He has been building a whole universe for years, with really cool influences of post-apocalyptic, aetherpunk and Ancient Middle Eastern aesthetics.

As his name suggests, the Lieutenant has spent a lifelong fighting, he is an amazing marksman despite his blind eye, thanks to his little Familiar that helps him by sharing sight with him.

This is such a nice opportunity for me to practice character design, and I am really honoured to be able to help my brother with his project, I can’t wait for the game to take shape !

In my fall into the Warhammer Wonderland, I began only learning about 40k. And there is already much to wrap your head around. Unfortunately for me, I discovered Bretonnia and their knights with winged horses and it made me want to do a “little scribble” in my sketchbook that ended up with this illustration.

I am also listening now to Warhammer Fantasy lore, because that’s also a good excuse to draw more cool-ass armors, mythical creatures and others wonders of fantasy worlds that I love.

Boss Fight is a tribute to my favourite Actual Play. Table Quest is a series, involving streamers who gather around a table to play Dungeon and Dragons. I discovered it with the third season and I really fell in love with the table, wether it was the characters, the story, but also the chemistry between the players and the Game Master.

When the season ended on a big epic combat in an underground vault against an mindflayer-controlled undead dragon, I really wanted to make a big piece for it. I had done a few other illustrations with those characters before but this one is probably the most ambitious. I am waiting for the next season to make more !

Having a sorcerer who cannot control his magic in your team can have… unexpected consequences. This piece refers to a moment in a Table Quest episode, that I tried to translate as a little comic !

Another Table Quest piece, representing some internal moral conflicts of the wizard of the group, the little kobold Pok. I really enjoy to work in this style, not rendering the piece too much allows me to think more in terms of strong composition and storytelling.

For this work, I wanted to practice my portrait skills, trying to copy an old photo but also giving it my own personal touches, and trying to anchor it in some sort of lovecraftian aesthetic, old gramophone playing distorted old songs, and the shadows of the room around darker than they should be…

Amongst the different roleplay games I played, the longest I have kept a character (surprisingly ) was for Call of Ctuhlu. This is a very dangerous universe, where your characters have no power at all, and are confronted to realities far beyond their comprehensions… Our Game Master was so good at creating mysteries mixing scientific and esoteric worlds, it really kept us all on the edge for many evenings.

After investigating different mysteries, our characters were obviously damaged in one way or another, psychologically or physically, but alive. I used to play with my group of friends in London before I left, so I wanted to make a piece to celebrate our adventures !
