Hi, I'm Alix! Originally from the South West of France, from a small town called Perigueux, I soon started sketching worlds and characters that I had in my head. When I learnt that there were people actually doing this as a job, I decided to study 3D Animation and Game Design in Bordeaux, France and then for a year in Sydney, Australia. After those 5 years, I graduated in 2020, in the middle of Covid and I was hired in Framestore as an asset artist for visualisation. There I learnt so much, got to work on incredible projects and discover the film industry.
My first project back then was 1899, a Netflix TV show from the same director than Dark. It was a full realtime project, we had to build a lot of environments for Unreal Engine that would be realistic looking enough to be used as a film backdrop. After that, I really tried to be involved into more technical projects that integrated a realtime component, and ended up participating in the Unreal Fellowship in 2023, learning even more in depth world building tools and techniques. Most of my tasks involved modeling, texturing and shading characters, creatures, props and environments from concepts or storyboards, with a very fast turnaround, but also a need for all the models to be optimised and realistic enough to integrate smoothly on filmed plates.
Although I specialised in 3D Modeling and Texturing, I always kept drawing for myself. Even though drawing was not really part of my daylight job, I think it was very useful to nourish the creative aspect of it. I was filling a lot of sketchbooks and storage space with new characters and creatures that I then used with my friends, to play Tabletop Roleplay Games, and fill the stories I was telling them. I was also starting to listen to a lot of Dungeon and Dragons podcasts, and really liked to spend time designing what the different players would look like, and illustrate moments of the story. I also dab a bit into miniature painting, resin dice making and cosplay, in the end, anything involving manual craft. Then I wonder why days only have 24 hours.
After spending 6 years in busy London, my partner and I decided to leave. Being both lovers of nature, walks in the forest and wildlife, we applied for a working holiday visa in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our love for the Weta companies and their work was also for something in the choice of the destination. So here we are now, on the other side of the world, travelling around and trying to develop more our personal interests. I discovered that what I enjoy the most in the creative industry is helping others illustrate their ideas, put images onto words and bring fantastic designs to life. So that's what I am hoping to achieve in the future.
